Milestones Behind the Intranet Practice

Dariawebdesign started in Kedah with a narrow focus: backend portals for heavy industry. The timeline below traces the decisions that shaped our approach to security, architecture, and client work.

2016 — First Industrial Portal

Our first contract was a maintenance scheduling portal for a palm oil processing plant. The client needed role-based access for engineers and shift supervisors. We delivered a monolith on a single server, but the experience taught us how much uptime matters on a production floor.

2018 — Zero-Trust Architecture Shift

After a security audit at a steel fabrication site, we rebuilt our default network model. Identity federation, per-service tokens, and segmented access became standard. This was the year we stopped treating intranets as internal websites and started treating them as critical infrastructure.

2020 — Multi-Site Rollout in Malaysia

A multinational client asked us to connect three geographically dispersed plants under one intranet. We designed a hub-and-spoke deployment with local caching and offline fallback for field operators. The project set our pattern for distributed corporate networks.

2022 — Cloud-Native Migration Practice

We formalized our migration methodology after moving a legacy backend portal for a cement manufacturer to a containerized stack. The process now covers data consistency checks, downtime windows, and operator training before cutover.

2024 — UX Lab for Field Operators

We opened a small usability lab in Kedah to test intranet interfaces with plant operators, not just office staff. Dark mode with cyan accents came out of these sessions, driven by low-light control room conditions and long shift hours.

2025 — Regional Backend Portal Team

Today the team of four engineers and two designers handles backend portals for heavy industry clients across Malaysia and Southeast Asia. We still keep the practice narrow: no small business sites, no marketing pages, only secure corporate platforms.

How we built the intranet practice, year by year

2018 — First heavy industry deployment

We started with a single plant in Kedah, replacing a patchwork of spreadsheets and email threads with a structured intranet for shift handovers and maintenance logs. The client's safety team needed one place to track equipment checks, and that first project shaped our focus on reliability over flash.

2020 — Backend portal for a regional steel group

After two years of smaller rollouts, we built a backend portal that connected procurement, inventory, and quality control across three sites. This was our first real test of multi-site data consistency, and it pushed us to adopt stricter API contracts and audit trails.

2022 — Zero-trust access model

With clients expanding across borders, we moved from simple VPN-based access to a zero-trust architecture. Identity federation, per-role permissions, and session monitoring became standard parts of our intranet builds, not optional extras.

2023 — Dark mode interface standard

Field operators told us the old bright screens were hard to read in low-light control rooms. We introduced a dark mode with cyan accents as the default for all new deployments, and it cut support tickets about visibility issues by a noticeable margin.

2024 — Migration toolkit for legacy portals

We formalized our migration process after helping a multinational client move from a 15-year-old backend system. The toolkit now covers data mapping, downtime windows, and operator training, so the switch feels less like a gamble and more like a planned step.

2025 — Regional delivery team in Malaysia

Today we run a dedicated team in Kedah that handles everything from initial wireframes to post-launch monitoring. Our clients in heavy industry know they can reach the same engineers who built their system, not a rotating support desk.
